About Khin Saw

Professor Dr. Khin Saw Oo is the Rector of the University of Medical Technology, Yangon, where she leads efforts to train qualified medical technologists in disciplines including physiotherapy, radiography, and medical laboratory technology. The university, established in 1993 and located in Insein Township, Yangon, operates under the Ministry of Health to strengthen professional competencies through education and community service. In parallel, she serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Rehabilitation at the University of Medicine 2, Yangon, contributing as a member of its Academic Board. Holding MD and PhD qualifications, her career trajectory reflects expertise in rehabilitation medicine, with a foundational M.Med.Sc. in Medical Rehabilitation based on her thesis "A study on the effect of physiotherapy in cervical spondylosis."

Professor Khin Saw Oo's academic contributions focus on rehabilitation assessment and development in Myanmar. She co-authored pivotal studies published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science in 2017, including "Gross Motor Skill Development of 5-year-old Kindergarten Children in Myanmar," which evaluated locomotor and object control skills among kindergarteners, and "Reliability of the Test of Gross Motor Development Second Edition (TGMD-2) for Kindergarten Children in Myanmar," establishing the tool's interrater and intrarater reliability in the local population. Subsequent works encompass "Effect of Inspiratory Muscles Training With Threshold Loading in Patients With Prolonged Mechanical Ventilation" and explorations of pressure injuries in ventilator-dependent patients, both from 2022 in Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She has addressed the current situation of Myanmar's rehabilitation teams and their educational relationships with Japan. As General Secretary of the Myanmar Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, she supports national professional advancement. Her engagements include the 54th Myanmar Health Research Congress and contributions to clinical practice guidelines for osteoporosis and fragility fracture management, enhancing Myanmar's rehabilitation framework.
