Dr. Kim Pasley is a Senior Professional Practice Fellow in the Department of Primary Health Care and General Practice at the University of Otago Christchurch campus, as well as a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences. She holds the qualifications MBChB from the University of Otago, FRNZCGP, and PGDip GP (Dist). Pasley has been involved in medical teaching throughout most of her career, working with students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In her current positions, she serves as the department facilitator for fourth-year medical undergraduates and practices as a General Practitioner at the 24 Hour Surgery. Prior to these roles, she worked clinically as a general practitioner for 28 years in Lyttelton, a port town near Christchurch, developing extensive practical experience in primary care.
As Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the University of Otago Christchurch, Dr. Pasley oversees student learning support and assists with issues affecting academic performance and well-being. Her special interests include medical education, communication skills, sexual health, integrated holistic health care, and equity in health for Māori, Pasifika, and rural populations. She is a member of the General Practice Research Group, contributing to primary health care research initiatives. Pasley co-authored the publication 'Nortriptyline for pain in knee osteoarthritis in general practice: a double-blind randomised controlled trial,' published in 2021 in the British Journal of General Practice. In 2024, she was part of the Student Pantry Team that received the TŌTARA TŪ KI TE PARAE / SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY award at the Matariki staff awards for their outstanding student support efforts. Her contributions highlight a dedication to education, clinical practice, and equitable health care delivery.
