A true mentor who cares about success.
Kimberly Ti serves as a Professional Practice Fellow in the Department of Human Nutrition at the University of Otago. She provides support staff services for the course HUNT344 Food and Nutrition in Practice, which features one two-hour lecture per week over 13 weeks, eight three-hour practical sessions, and a four-hour Food Truck event. Previously, Ti worked as a research assistant in the same department and pursued studies in the Master of Dietetics programme under the supervision of Mary Spiers. Recognized as a dietitian, she applies her expertise to practical applications in food and nutrition education within the university setting.
In May 2022, Kimberly Ti initiated Feed My Flat, a non-profit programme aimed at supporting University of Otago students facing challenges with affordable and healthy meal preparation amid rising food costs. The programme supplies food bags with ingredients from local suppliers and detailed recipes for three budget-friendly, nutritious meals per week, such as beef stroganoff, Brazilian chicken curry, and pork mince soft tacos. Available in options for four portions at $85 or six portions at $125, the bags include guidance on essential cooking techniques, food hygiene practices like cleaning chopping boards after handling raw chicken to prevent food poisoning, and sustainable food habits. Inspired by cooking horror stories shared at a dinner party with friends and concerned parents, the initiative promotes nutritional awareness, cooking skills, and student welfare. Delivered to student flats in Dunedin with a weekly capacity of up to 50 flats, Feed My Flat has garnered support from the Department of Human Nutrition, including Professor Lisa Houghton, Mary Spiers, and Nichola Agnew, and shares content via its Instagram account.
