About Konstantine

Dr. Konstantine Panegyres is a Lecturer in the Discipline of Classics and Ancient History within the School of Humanities at The University of Western Australia, a position he assumed in January 2025. A native of Western Australia, Panegyres pursued his undergraduate and master's studies at the University of Melbourne, earning a BA (Hons) from 2014 to 2017 and an MA from 2018 to 2019. He then completed his DPhil at the University of Oxford in 2022, supported by a Clarendon Scholarship. Following his doctorate, he held a McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Melbourne from 2023 to 2024.

Panegyres' research focuses on the editing of unpublished ancient Greek papyri originating from Egypt, spanning approximately 300 BC to 800 AD. His interests encompass ancient health and medicine, exploring perceptions of health and practices for maintaining it, as well as Greek and Roman languages, literature, history, textual criticism, ancient manuscripts, and books. He is the author of the monograph Health, Lifestyle, and Elite Culture in Greek and Roman Times, published by Taylor & Francis in 2026. Notable peer-reviewed articles include "Four Christian Papyri in Oxford" in Archiv für Papyrusforschung und verwandte Gebiete (2026), "Herodotus 2.101.1" in Mnemosyne (2026), "Ovid, Metamorphoses 15.55-59" in Hermes (2026), and "A Problem in Augustine, Confessions 3.21" forthcoming in Vigiliae Christianae (2026). Additional contributions include articles in Cancer (2024, "The story of how cancer got its name") and Lifestyle Medicine (2024, "The Greco-Roman Contribution to Lifestyle Medicine").

Beyond academia, Panegyres actively disseminates his expertise through public outreach, delivering general lectures to schools, appearing on radio programs including ABC Radio National, 2SER Radio, Triple R Radio Melbourne, RTR FM Perth, and 2CC Radio Canberra, and contributing popular articles on ancient topics to platforms like The Conversation and UWA news. He teaches intermediate and advanced Greek and Latin language courses, as well as units on the ancient world. Current projects include editing a collection of unpublished Christian papyri from Oxford's Bodleian Library and writing a book on cancer in Greco-Roman antiquity.
