She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from UAF—with her graduate project examining the stability and accuracy of numerical finite difference methods applied to two-dimensional isothermal ice flow—and a Doctor of Education in Online Education from Northcentral University, completed in 2019. Bowman brings over 25 years of teaching experience to her role, including more than 15 years delivering online mathematics courses in both synchronous and asynchronous formats. Her expertise, as outlined in her official UAF profile, encompasses online learning, mastery-based mathematics, and gateway math success. She has been a dedicated faculty member at UAF since at least 2002, contributing to the department's educational mission through innovative pedagogy and student support initiatives.
Bowman has significantly impacted student success by integrating tools like the Nanook Navigator platform since 2018, enabling rapid text-based communications, introductory student meetings, grade notifications, and seamless connections to tutoring and instructor appointments. Featured in a 2022 Nanook Navigator and Student Success Spotlight, she expressed her passion for helping UAF students—whom she views as family in Fairbanks—overcome mathematical anxieties and achieve greater accomplishments, while facilitating peer tutoring among proficient students. Her Essential Precalculus with Applications (MATH F122X) course was spotlighted by the UAF Center for Teaching and Learning in 2020, highlighting her effective online instructional strategies. Bowman has shared practical teaching tips, such as personalizing student communications, drawing from nearly two decades of experience. Actively engaged in university governance, she serves as a faculty senate representative for the College of Natural Science and Mathematics and has participated in key committees, including the GER & Core Faculty Senate Committee. In the 2023-2024 academic year, she was promoted to term associate professor and served as co-principal investigator on a Faculty Initiative Fund project. Bowman continues to foster mathematical proficiency and gateway course success at UAF.
