Laura Fitzgerald is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle campus, within the School of Law and Business. She holds a BA (Hons), MA (Hons), and LLB (Hons). With an initial background in philosophy, Fitzgerald taught in that discipline at Notre Dame before transitioning to law. She lectured in law at Murdoch University for several years, after which she returned to Notre Dame as a senior lecturer, a position she has maintained since 2012. Fitzgerald is recognized as a successful teacher and serves as a moot coach, having guided prize-winning moot teams to success. In 2025, she was elected to the Academic Council for a two-year term, representing Level A-D staff from the Faculty of Arts, Science, Law and Business.
Fitzgerald teaches Contract Law, Ethics and the Law, Bioethics, Mooting, and Legal Process & Statutory Interpretation. Her research expertise and supervision areas include ethics, encompassing bioethics and research ethics, legal philosophy and legal reasoning, diversity in the legal profession, and contract law. These interests reflect her interdisciplinary approach, bridging philosophy and law. As a member of the Academic Council, she contributes to university governance and academic policy. Her coaching of successful moot teams demonstrates her commitment to practical legal training and student achievement. Through her teaching, research focus, and leadership roles, Fitzgerald plays an integral part in advancing legal education and ethical inquiry within the Law faculty at Notre Dame Australia.
