Leander McLennan is a veterinary surgeon with expertise in production animal health, animal welfare, and veterinary education. She completed her Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours in Veterinary Biology at Murdoch University from 2001 to 2004, followed by her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 2006. Born and raised in Western Australia, McLennan gained practical experience in commercial clinical veterinary practice after graduation before entering academia. She served as Senior Lecturer in Animal Health at Harper Adams University in the Animal Production, Welfare and Veterinary Sciences Department, where she taught undergraduate courses and contributed to research initiatives.
McLennan co-authored a paper in the Proceedings of the 9th International Symposium on Veterinary Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy in 2016. She conducted a study titled 'Are horses affected by the loss of a companion,' surveying 607 respondents about 516 horses that lost a companion to death, revealing significant grief responses including changes in appetite and behavior. From January 2021 to December 2022, she held the position of Senior Lecturer in Production Animal Health at Murdoch University in the Discipline of Production Animal Health, School of Veterinary Medicine, delivering lectures on animal health, production medicine, and related topics. She participated in the 2022 Western Australia Teaching and Learning Forum hosted by Murdoch University. Currently, she is a Veterinary Officer at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development in Kensington, Western Australia.
