Lee-Ann Ewing is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Southern Cross University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (OTHOS) from the University of South Africa and a Master of Education (Honours) from the University of Western Australia. With extensive experience as a primary school teacher spanning many years across two countries and four Australian states, she brings practical expertise to her academic role. Prior to entering higher education, Lee-Ann mentored graduate teachers through their first year of teaching and Victorian Institute of Teaching registration processes. She joined Monash University in 2019 and is now based at Southern Cross University's Lismore campus in the position of Lecturer. Lee-Ann is currently a doctoral candidate at Macquarie University, furthering her research in education.
Her research interests encompass graduate and novice teachers' early career experiences, the influences on their career choices, and institutional responses to COVID-19, including remote teaching and learning practices. As a member of the SCU TeachLab research team, she contributes to initiatives enhancing teacher education, and she supports the Future Teachers Club. Key publications include 'School-Home Crisis Communication During the First Wave of COVID-19' (2024, Communication Research Reports, with Holly B. Cooper), which examines crisis communication between schools and families; 'From bad to worse: the negative and deteriorating portrayal of teachers on screen' (2021, Media International Australia, with Michael Ewing and Holly Cooper), critiquing media depictions of educators; and 'Technology-enabled remote learning during Covid-19: perspectives of Australian teachers, students and parents' (Technology, Pedagogy and Education, with Holly Cooper), providing insights into emergency remote education. These works advance understanding in teacher development and pandemic-era pedagogy.
