Ms Lee Syminton serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Design and the Built Environment within the Faculty of Humanities at Curtin University. Her academic role involves teaching and supervising architecture students across various levels. She leads innovative projects such as the 'City of Winds', where first-year students assembled models of a lost city inspired by San Gimignano. Syminton organizes study tours for students focusing on smart cities and heritage preservation, enhancing practical learning experiences. Under her guidance, Curtin architecture students secured the top three prizes in the 2022 Fleetwood Challenge Cup competition. She has also collaborated on the Fleetwood Challenge Competition project with colleagues Andrew White and Francesco Mancini. Syminton represents Curtin University externally as a panelist for PrefabAus in Perth and as an international judge for an architecture competition held at the top of China near Siberia. Additionally, she chaired the jury for the WA Chapter Architecture Awards.
In addition to her teaching, Lee Syminton is the director of Lee Syminton Architects, a contemporary architectural firm based in Perth, Western Australia, with over 20 years of experience in residential and civic architecture. She contributes to research on sustainable construction practices, co-authoring the publication 'How the Workforce of the Future Applies a Circular Economy Model to the Construction Industry – Preliminary Results from an Online Survey' in 2021 alongside Roberto Minunno and others from Curtin University. Syminton is pursuing a PhD at Curtin University, having presented her second work-in-progress to an academic audience in the School of Design and the Built Environment. She supervises student internships, such as the Strawberry Hill Farm visualization project at Curtin. Her educational background includes studies at The University of Western Australia. Syminton maintains professional engagement through her practice and academic contributions, fostering connections between education, research, and industry in architecture.
