Li Liang is a Full-time Instructor and Department Chair for Computer Science at Portland Community College, serving across all campuses with his office located in TCB 312 at the Sylvania Campus. He holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Portland State University. Appointed on September 12, 2002, as an Instructor in the Computer Science program within the Computer Technology and Real Estate Division at the Sylvania Campus, Li Liang has been a dedicated faculty member for over two decades. His initial appointment marked the beginning of a sustained career at the institution, where he achieved continuous appointment status by 2004.
Li Liang has played key roles in curriculum development and program oversight. In 2011-2012, he served as the Subject Area Council (SAC) Chair for Computer Science, contributing to course revisions including updates to CS162 Computer Science II, with approvals documented under his contact information, phone 971-722-4297 and email lliang@pcc.edu. He co-authored the comprehensive Computer Science Program Review in March 2020, collaborating with faculty such as Walter Morales, Gayathri Iyer, Doug Jones, Shawli Sengupta, and Nick Insalata. This review details the program's educational goals, student outcomes, changes implemented, and its function as a lower-division collegiate transfer pathway for students aiming to pursue bachelor's degrees in computer science or related fields at four-year universities. Li Liang regularly teaches foundational and advanced courses, including CS160 Exploring Computer Science, CS260 Data Structures (offered in online, hybrid, and in-person formats across terms like Winter and Spring), and has been involved in course orientations since at least 2006. His leadership as Department Chair supports the department's alignment with industry needs and transfer requirements, fostering student success in computer science education.
