Lill Tove Fredriksen serves as Associate Professor in Sámi literature at the Department of Language and Culture within the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. Hailing from Porsanger in Finnmark county, she earned her PhD in Sámi literature from UiT in 2015, with a thesis written in the Sámi language that analyzes coping strategies in Jovnna-Ánde Vest's novel trilogy Árbbolaččat. Earlier, she obtained a post-graduate degree in Sámi literature. Her research interests center on Sámi contemporary literature, particularly prose, indigenous perspectives in academic research, and Sámi folklore within historical contexts. Fredriksen teaches courses on Sámi literature, including the mini-subject as part of MIK-1024 in 2026.
Key publications by Fredriksen include 'The Trickster and the Engineer' in Nordlit (2018), 'The Strategies of Coping in Jovnna-Ánde Vest's Trilogy Árbbolaččat' in Nordlit (2008), and ''Elveland': Irony and Laughter as Power Media in Sea Sámi Folk-Song Tradition' in Nordlit (2004). She also authored 'The art of hinting and allusions in Sámi literature: a reading of Jovnna-Ánde Vest's novel trilogy Árbbolaččat' in AlterNative (2021), as well as 'Porsáŋggu lávlagat. Mearrasámi lávlunárbevierru ja olmmošlaš reaškinkultuvra' (Skriftserie nr. 10, 2001). Recent contributions feature 'Samisk barnelitteraturs poesi i bøkene Beaivvit guhkkot otnot og Searaid fearánat' and 'Sámi mánáidgirjjálašvuođa poesiija girjjiin Beaivvit guhkkot otnot ja Searaid fearánat' in Barnelitterært forskningstidsskrift (2026), alongside 'When Storytellers Step Into Written Literature' (2026). In public outreach, she writes for Avvir on Sámi language, research funding, and historical narratives, and received the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education's formidlingspris in 2023. She leads reading circles, such as on Rauni Magga Lukkari's Losses beaivegirji, and events with authors like Sigbjørn Skåden, promoting Sámi literary scholarship.
