Dr. Linda Davies is a Science Lecturer in the School of Arts and Sciences at The University of Notre Dame Australia, specialising in environmental management. She holds a BSc and a PhD from Murdoch University, awarded in 2015 for her thesis titled 'An evaluation of Australian Escott natural Zeolites to isolate bacteria and viruses from water,' which examined zeolite applications in water purification to remove microbial contaminants. Commencing her role at Notre Dame in late 2017, Dr. Davies has distinguished herself through an engaging and inspiring teaching style that motivates students to address environmental issues stemming from human actions. She lectures in the Bachelor of Science program, covering subjects including Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Development, Environmental Impact Assessment, Coastal Processes and Planning, Geographic Information Systems, and Physical Geography. Since 2020, she has received consistent student nominations for the Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Awards, achieving formal recognition in 2020 for initiatives that enhance student learning through project-based approaches and industry linkages, providing job-ready sustainable skills, and in 2021 for teaching excellence in fostering caring pedagogical relationships to inspire interdisciplinary learning in environmental management.
Dr. Davies' research focuses on marine plastic pollution monitoring and environmental monitoring and management. Her notable publication includes Davies, L., Kemp, A., O'Loughlin, C., & Korczynskyj, D. (2022). 'Is conscientious beachcombing the key to “unlock” marine plastic pollution trends through citizen science? A case study from Cockburn Sound, Western Australia,' published in Marine Pollution Bulletin (volume 177, article 113519). She actively contributes to the community as a representative on the Cockburn Sound Management Council since 2023, appointed for her expertise in environmental monitoring. Dr. Davies has presented at numerous events, such as the March 2023 Climate Action Special Interest Group at Murdoch University, June 2023 World Ocean Day event by Ocean Remedy in Fremantle, July 2023 talk for 'The Sit' community, October 2023 Sea Shepherd beach clean at Bathers Beach, and November 2023 Perth NRM Coastal Community Forum in Rockingham, emphasising citizen science in marine litter monitoring. Her research has garnered media attention, including ABC features on plastic waste reduction following bans and rubbish accumulation at Bathers Beach.
