Linda Humphreys is a Senior Lecturer in Medical Education at Griffith University School of Medicine and Dentistry, serving as the Reflective Practice Lead on the Gold Coast campus. With more than 25 years of experience as a tertiary educator, she brings expertise from her background in genetic counseling, holding an MSc in Genetic Counseling, a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, and a BSc (Honours). Specializing in clinical sciences, communication skills, and reflective practice, Humphreys teaches within the Doctor of Medicine program, focusing on developing human professionalism, emotional resilience, and person-centred care among medical students. She introduced a values-based reflective practice module to enhance student learning and professional growth, and co-developed the MaRIS model—a quality improvement initiative for fostering medical students' human capabilities and personal resilience, as detailed in the 2020 Medical Teacher publication co-authored with Kwong D. Chan and others, cited over 40 times.
Humphreys' scholarly contributions include key publications such as 'Factors Associated with Parental Adaptation to Children with Rare Genetic Conditions' (2017, Journal of Genetic Counseling), 'Building emotional resilience to foster well-being by utilising reflective practise in the sonography workplace' (2024, Sonography, with Alison White), 'Considerations of communication challenges facing sonographers in Australia beyond 2024: An ageing population, ageism and maintaining the focus on patient-centred care' (2024, Sonography), and 'Are Australasian Genetic Counselors Interested in Private Practice at the Primary Care Level of Health Service?' (2015). She consults on contemplative teaching methods, reflective writing, medical humanities, and narrative medicine to promote practitioner wellbeing. Her excellence in teaching is recognized with a Griffith University Health Group Citation and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (UK). Through committee roles and presentations at professional conferences, Humphreys influences curriculum development and supports transdisciplinary student wellbeing initiatives at Griffith University.
