Inspires growth and curiosity in every student.
Lindsay Reid is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Gettysburg College. Her teaching and research interests fall within the fields of international relations and comparative politics. A first-generation college student and Gettysburg College alumna, she holds a B.A. in Political Science and French from Gettysburg College, an M.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the same institution in 2016. Prior to returning to Gettysburg College, Reid worked for three years as an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Davis. She prioritizes creating an environment in her classes where students of all backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to develop their intellectual capabilities. Her goal as an instructor is to foster open, interactive, and challenging classes that equip students with tools for active participation and rewarding careers in the global arena. In September 2025, she was granted tenure at Gettysburg College. She serves as the Diplomacy Lab Director for the 2025-26 academic year.
Reid's research examines how civil war settlement processes—including third-party mediators and civil war peace agreements—influence both the duration and quality of peace following conflict, with a particular focus on women's rights and opportunities. She aims to extend current definitions of successful conflict resolution to understand how institutions, rules, and norms of inclusivity and opportunity can take root post-civil war. Her scholarship has been published or is forthcoming in International Studies Quarterly, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, Conflict Management and Peace Science, Journal of Global Security Studies, International Theory, and the Research Handbook on Mediating International Crises. Key publications include "Conflict Environments and Civil War Onset" (Journal of Global Security Studies, 2020, co-authored with Rachel Myrick), "Pro-Government Militias and Civil War Termination" (Conflict Management and Peace Science, 2022, co-authored with Chelsea Estancona), "Civil War Mediation and the Conflict Environment" (International Studies Quarterly, 2023), and "Violence beyond the Battlefield: Civilian Targeting, Sexual Violence, and Women's Political Empowerment" (Journal of Global Security Studies, 2024, co-authored with Caroline Hartzell). Reid received the 2025 Dr. Ralph Cavaliere Endowed Teaching Award for her teaching excellence. As of July 2024, she is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
