Linus Mabughi Nyiwul serves as Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Economics at Gettysburg College, where he also holds an appointment in the Africana Studies Program. He joined the college in the fall of 2009 as a Visiting Assistant Professor and was appointed Assistant Professor of Economics and Africana Studies in 2010. Nyiwul advanced to Associate Professor and Department Chair in 2017 and was promoted to full Professor in 2025. Prior to Gettysburg College, he served as Instructor in the Talent Advance Program at the School of Management, University of Massachusetts Amherst from spring 2007 to spring 2008, Research Assistant in the Department of Resource Economics at the same institution from September 2008 to August 2009, and held teaching assistant positions there from spring 2005 to spring 2007. Earlier roles include Research Fellow and Teaching Assistant at the Department of Economics, American University in Cairo from 2001 to 2004. Nyiwul holds a Ph.D. in Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2009), an M.A. in Economics from the American University in Cairo (2004), and a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Buea, Cameroon (1999).
Nyiwul's research focuses on natural resource and environmental economics, development economics, applied economics, and applied econometrics, particularly environmental policy design and implementation, climate change adaptation, water sector innovation, and poverty alleviation in Sub-Saharan Africa. His scholarly output includes numerous peer-reviewed articles, such as "Food price inflation and gender inequality in developing countries" (2026, International Economics and Economic Policy, with Z. Earlier academic honors include Dean's Academic Excellence Awards from the University of Buea (1997, 1998, 1999), the African Graduate Fellowship (2001-2004), and the Vijay Bhagavan Teaching Assistant of Distinction from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2008). Nyiwul has delivered the Fall Honors Day Address at Gettysburg College and leads departmental initiatives as Chair.
