Dr Lisa Cullen, CPA, is a Lecturer in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance within the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. She serves as a teaching and research academic in accounting and holds a PhD in Accounting from Edith Cowan University. Her teaching responsibilities cover accounting theory and financial accounting, spanning large undergraduate classes and smaller postgraduate groups. Cullen is recognized for her contributions to accounting education and research supervision in financial accounting disciplines.
Dr Cullen's research specializations include accounting history with a focus on financial accountability in early banking, corporate governance disclosures, career barriers and progression for female accountants in the state public sector, and corporate social responsibility. She has examined governance disclosures and firm characteristics of listed Australian mining companies (2002), audit disclosures related to company failures from 1997 to 2002, and corporate social responsibility in Sri Lanka influenced by government policies, societal expectations, and the 2004 tsunami. Key publications are 'The rise of financial accountability in British joint stock banks: 1825 to 1845' (Financial History Review, 2020, with Alistair Brown), 'Origins resting behind banking financial accountability of paragraphs 78 to 82 of the First Schedule of the Companies Act 1862 (UK)' (Business History, 2020), 'Accountability and financial statement presentation of early Western Australian banks: 1837–1880' (Accounting History, 2018, with Chantal S. Game), 'Career Progression of Female Accountants in the State Public Sector' (Australian Accounting Review, 2012), 'Perceived Barriers to Career Progression in the Western Australian State Public Sector' (2007), and 'Governance Disclosures and Firm Characteristics of Listed Australian Mining Companies' (2002). Her publications have accumulated approximately 99 citations on ResearchGate, impacting discussions in accounting history and professional development.
