Lisa-Jane Reid has been a Pharmacy Technician at the University of Otago's School of Pharmacy, within the Division of Health Sciences, since 1991, marking over 35 years of service as of 2026. She began her career in pharmacy as a technician in a community pharmacy for three years before joining the university at age 19. In 2016, the university celebrated her 25 years of sterling service as a dispensing lab technician, recognizing her as one of the constants through significant changes in the school's curriculum and operations, including the discontinuation of traditional practicals like suppository and emulsion preparation. Reid holds a Certificate in Dispensing Technology and originally aspired to become a teacher, a goal she realizes in her supportive educational role.
In her position as both dispensing lab technician and pharmacy skills technician (Room 514), Reid prepares dispensing laboratories, tutors second- and third-year Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) students in practical skills, and assists students from the Open Polytechnic training to become technicians. She offers conversational English sessions to international students exclusively in Semester One and serves as a primary contact for third-year students scheduling skills labs and for queries regarding applications for registration as intern pharmacists. Reid contributes to student outreach through events like the Hands-On at Otago programme, which engages young potential pharmacists. Her technical support ensures hands-on learning opportunities vital for pharmacy training. She also provides photography for school news and events.
