Lisa Yerke, DDS, MS, is Clinical Associate Professor and Program Director of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics in the Department of Periodontics and Endodontics at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 2006, a Certificate in Periodontics from the Eastman Institute for Oral Health in 2009, and a Master of Science in Oral Sciences from the University at Buffalo in 2016. Yerke advanced from Clinical Assistant Professor to her current faculty positions at the University at Buffalo, where she directs a research-intensive 33-month postdoctoral certificate program aimed at developing clinician-scientists proficient in periodontal diagnosis, treatment, and investigation. Participants in the program concurrently pursue advanced research degrees such as MS or PhD in Oral Sciences, Biomaterials, Oral Biology, Epidemiology, or Public Health.
Yerke's scholarly work examines the relationships between systemic medications and conditions and periodontal outcomes, including attachment loss around teeth and implants, bone loss at implant sites, and socket preservation techniques. Her contributions include co-authoring "Use of Systemic Steroids, Hormone Replacement Therapy, or Oral Contraceptives Is Associated with Decreased Implant Survival in Women" (Dentistry Journal, 2023), "The influence of proton pump inhibitors on tissue attachment around teeth and dental implants: A scoping review" (Clinical and Experimental Dental Research, 2022), "Association between proton pump inhibitors and periodontal disease severity" (Clinical and Experimental Dental Research, 2022), "Proton pump inhibitors are associated with reduced periodontal disease severity" (JADA Foundational Science, 2022), "The effect of hypothyroidism on bone loss at dental implants" (Journal of Oral Implantology, 2021), and "The Effect of Platelet-Rich Fibrin, Calcium Sulfate, Platelet-Rich Plasma, and Resorbable Collagen on Soft Tissue Closure of Extraction Sites" (Journal of Functional Biomaterials, 2017). She has produced over 17 research outputs accumulating nearly 200 citations and served as co-investigator on a National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research grant, "Developing a Tailored, Web-delivered, Motivational Interviewing-based Intervention to Promote Oral Health" (2018-2022). Yerke received the Dr. Mitzi Neiders Educational Fund grant supporting women faculty in dental education.
