Dr Liz Goode is a Senior Lecturer and Teaching Scholar in the Academic Portfolio Office at Southern Cross University, serving in the Office of the PVC (Academic Quality). She holds a Bachelor of Communication (Honours) and a PhD in Communication and Media Arts from the University of Newcastle, awarded in December 2019. Her doctoral research investigated constructions of cultural identity, belonging, and family. From 2019 to 2020, she taught in the Preparing for Success Program in SCU College, and she currently coordinates the Transition to Uni program. As an educator, her focus is on preparing and empowering students from diverse backgrounds for university study in blended, online, and immersive modes. Goode leads scholarship of learning and teaching initiatives, evaluating innovative education models such as the Southern Cross Model, an immersive block teaching approach.
Goode's research specializations encompass pedagogy, student engagement and success in higher education, immersive or block models of delivery, and support for non-traditional students in enabling programs. Her work has garnered 545 citations on Google Scholar. Key publications include 'Does online engagement matter? The impact of interactive learning modules and synchronous class attendance on student achievement in an immersive delivery model' (Australasian Journal of Educational Technology, 2022, cited by 100); 'Implications of immersive scheduling for student achievement and feedback' (Studies in Higher Education, 2023, cited by 55); 'Widening student participation in higher education through online enabling education' (Widening Participation and Lifelong Learning, 2014, cited by 56); 'Transforming lives: The power of an Australian enabling education' (Higher Education Research & Development, 2022, cited by 45); and 'Student perceptions of immersive block learning: An exploratory study of student satisfaction in the Southern Cross Model' (Journal of Further and Higher Education, 2024, cited by 23). She has received an Office for Learning and Teaching Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning and several Vice-Chancellor's Citations. Her contributions have advanced curriculum reform and student outcomes across disciplines through the Southern Cross Model.
