A qualified speech pathologist, she completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Human Communication Science at Curtin University in September 2020. Her doctoral thesis examined language skills in adolescents with acquired brain injury and their associations with social and emotional wellbeing, supported by an Australian Postgraduate Award and Curtin University Postgraduate Scholarship. Hill's research specializations encompass adolescent language and literacy, discourse skills across genres and lifespans, and the psychosocial impacts of communication disorders on mental health outcomes. She focuses on children and young people with developmental language disorder, dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and traumatic brain injury, investigating academic, vocational challenges, and mental health service transitions. Her work includes developing interventions, such as accessible mental health programs, and protocols like the Curtin University Discourse Protocol—Adolescent Version. Key publications include 'Narrative and Non-Narrative Discourse Skills in ADHD Across the Lifespan: A Systematic Review of the Literature' (2025), 'Disconnected from everyone and everything around them: A mixed method study to explore the perspectives of children with language difficulties and their caregivers on mental health concerns' (2025), 'Supporting mental health in young people with language and literacy difficulties: A scoping review' (2025), and 'Low language capacity in childhood: A systematic review of prevalence estimates' (2023).
