Lizzie Bond serves as Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery and Critical Care at the University of Otago. An orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty expertise in shoulder, elbow, and sports knee injuries, she holds qualifications including MB ChB from the University of Otago (2012) and FRACS (Orthopaedics, 2022). Bond completed her general orthopaedic surgical training in New Zealand, followed by specialized fellowships in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Duke University in the United States, and Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Originally from New Zealand, she has returned to Dunedin to provide high-quality orthopaedic care.
In clinical practice, Bond works as an Orthopaedic Consultant at Dunedin Public Hospital, affiliated with the Southern District Health Board, and conducts private consultations and surgeries at Mercy Hospital. Her services address shoulder surgery encompassing arthroscopy, sports injuries, trauma, rotator cuff repairs, arthritis, and shoulder replacements; elbow surgery including arthroscopy, sports injuries, trauma, arthritis, and replacements; and knee surgery such as arthroscopy, sports injuries including ACL reconstruction, trauma, arthritis, and replacements. She caters to both the general population and athletes throughout the Otago region. As a clinical academic, Bond contributes to teaching medical students and trainees at the University of Otago, balancing educational responsibilities with her hospital-based service delivery. She maintains active memberships in key professional bodies: New Zealand Orthopaedic Association (NZOA), Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Ladies in Orthopaedics New Zealand (LIONZ), New Zealand Knee Surgery Society, New Zealand Shoulder and Elbow Society, Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES).
