Lynda Horne is the Charge Medical Laboratory Scientist at the Oral Pathology Centre within the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Otago. She holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the University of Otago and is a Member of the New Zealand Medical Laboratory Scientists (MNZMLS). Listed in the Department of Oral Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences in university calendars, her role involves overseeing laboratory functions, diagnostic testing for oral pathology cases, and providing technical support for research activities in the Division of Health Sciences.
Lynda Horne has contributed essential technical expertise to multiple research efforts at the Sir John Walsh Research Institute and the Faculty of Dentistry. Her skills in histological processing, immunohistochemistry, reverse transcription PCR, and sample preparation have been acknowledged in various publications. Examples include technical assistance for 'Detection of Candida albicans mRNA in Archival Histopathology Samples by Reverse Transcription PCR' (Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 2004), 'Detection of Candida albicans ADH1 and ADH2 mRNAs in Human Salivary Samples' (Journal of Oral Pathology & Medicine, 2014), PD-L1 expression studies in non-dysplastic, dysplastic, and oral squamous cell carcinoma samples (New Zealand Dental Journal, 2022), 'Metastases to the oral region from pleural mesothelioma' (Head & Neck, 2012), and the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on oral and maxillofacial pathology services (New Zealand Dental Journal, 2021). She has also supported BMLSc student projects and ongoing oral molecular and immunopathology research. Collaborating with staff such as Professor Alison Rich, Professor Haizal Hussaini, and Associate Professor Benedict Seo, Horne enables diagnostic services and scholarly outputs from the Oral Pathology Centre in Dunedin.
