Dr Lynere Wilson is a Lecturer in the Department of Nursing at the University of Otago, Christchurch, within the Faculty of Health Professional Programmes, Health Sciences Division. A Registered Nurse, she holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Otago (2016), Master of Health Sciences (Mental Health), Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health, Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, and Bachelor of Arts. Her career trajectory spans clinical nursing, research in psychological medicine, and academic teaching. Early publications affiliate her with the Department of Psychological Medicine, reflecting her foundational work in mental health. Currently, she maintains a clinical practice as a private nurse therapist specializing in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, alongside her academic duties.
Wilson's research specializations include workforce development in nursing, emphasizing relational skills, staff wellbeing, and cultural safety. Her scholarly contributions address mental health nursing themes, such as self-management in bipolar disorder, medication adherence, parenting challenges, and professional empathy. Key publications are 'The Personal and Collective Resources of Nurses and the Relationship to Job Commitment and Work Engagement' (Journal of Advanced Nursing, 2025); 'Health Professional Perspectives on Translation of Cultural Safety Concepts into Practice: A Scoping Study' (Frontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences, 2022); 'Self-management for Bipolar Disorder and the Construction of the Ethical Self' (Nursing Inquiry, 2018); 'Parenting with a Diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder' (Journal of Advanced Nursing, 2009); 'Effectiveness of Interventions to Improve Medication Adherence in Bipolar Disorder' (Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, 2012); and 'Patients' Reports of the Factors Influencing Medication Adherence in Bipolar Disorder' (International Journal of Nursing Studies, 2011).
