Lynne Knapp serves as the Subject Librarian for the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Otago Health Sciences Library in Dunedin, New Zealand. With many years of service in various roles within the University of Otago Libraries, she provides specialized support to academic staff and students in key health-related disciplines. Her subject specialties encompass Anatomy (Department of Anatomy), Dental Health (Sir John Walsh Research Institute, Faculty of Dentistry), Human Nutrition (Department of Human Nutrition), and Neuroscience. In her capacity as Library Kaiāwhina, Knapp assists patrons with resource discovery, database navigation, reference management using tools like EndNote, and developing effective search strategies for research projects. She contributes to an inclusive library environment by incorporating te reo Māori elements and supporting Māori initiatives within the Health Sciences Library.
Knapp holds a BA Honours in Russian Language and Literature. Her professional contributions include co-authoring the peer-reviewed article 'From tourist to treasure hunter: a self-guided orientation programme for first-year students,' published in 2008 in Health Information and Libraries Journal with Kate Thompson and Rosemary Kardos. This publication outlines an innovative, interactive library orientation program tailored for incoming health sciences undergraduates, promoting independent information-seeking skills. Frequently acknowledged in University of Otago doctoral and master's theses—such as those on diabetes effects, impression materials bond strength, nutrition education, and chronic fatigue syndrome—Knapp's expertise in literature searching and bibliographic support has directly facilitated diverse research outputs in biomedical sciences, dentistry, and nutrition. Her ongoing dedication enhances research productivity and student academic success at the institution.
