Rate My Professor Martin Adlington

Martin Adlington is the Head of Civil Engineering, Construction Management and Quantity Surveying at the University of Derby, where he also serves as Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer. He brings over 18 years of experience in learning, development and education. Prior to joining the university, he owned a construction business and worked as a trainer and researcher at the National House Building Company academy. His academic qualifications include a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management with first-class honours from the University of Reading in 2009, a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Development from the University of Derby in 2013, a single Masters module in Environmental Management and Assessment from the University of Bath in 2012, and a Certificate of Education from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2004. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Derby, which began in 2015.

Adlington holds Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building. His research focuses on climate change and overheating in buildings with an emphasis on healthy buildings. He has presented papers including a critical review of the impact of global warming on overheating in buildings at the 7th Global Conference on Global Warming in 2018, a critical review of the impact of overheating in buildings using matrix framework assessment at the 19th International Conference on Sustainable Architectural, Environmental and Ecological Engineering Design for Society in 2017, and a paper on UK care facilities and climate change at Healthy Buildings 2019 Asia. He acts as an assessor and external examiner and contributes to programmes in civil engineering and construction management at the University of Derby.
