Dr. Macey Edmondson serves as Assistant Professor of Higher Education and Graduate Program Coordinator for the Department of Higher Education at the University of Mississippi School of Education. She also holds the position of Faculty Director for the Online Ed.D. Program in Higher Education. Edmondson earned her J.D. in 2001, M.A. in Higher Education in 2008, and Ph.D. in Higher Education in 2013, all from the University of Mississippi. Her doctoral dissertation, titled "Exploring the Relationship Between Academic Dishonesty and Moral Development in Law School Students," investigated the connections between moral development and academic integrity behaviors among law students using mixed methods. Prior to her current academic roles, she served as Assistant Dean for Students at the University of Mississippi School of Law, where she was honored with the Joan K. Murphy Outstanding Law School Staff Member Memorial Award, selected by the student body.
Dr. Edmondson's research interests encompass legal issues confronting graduate and professional students, higher education law and policy, academic rights, employment law, access to resources, and graduate student well-being, including mental health, stress management, work-life balance, and support services. Her key publications include the chapter "Academic Freedom Protections in National and International Law" (2022) and the article "State Law and Protecting Students from Predatory For-Profit Colleges and Universities" (2023). Throughout her career, she co-founded the National Association for Law Student Affairs Professionals (NALSAP) in 2016 and was elected its President in 2019; chaired the Executive Board of the Student Services Committee of the Association of American Law Schools in 2015; and co-directed the Council for Legal Education Opportunity for four years. She currently serves on the Mississippi Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the Board of Directors of the Education Law Association, as part of its inaugural class of Early Career Fellows in 2024. Additional honors include recognition as one of Mississippi’s 50 Leading Businesswomen by the Mississippi Business Journal in 2015 and the Peter N. Kutulakis Student Services Award from the AALS Section on Student Services in 2026. Edmondson teaches courses such as The Law and Higher Education, Advanced Education Policy Analysis, and Contemporary Issues in Higher Education.
