About Marc A.

Marc A. Nivet, Ed.D., M.B.A., has served as Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Professor at the UT Southwestern Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health, UT Southwestern Medical Center, since September 2016. A nationally renowned thought leader and change agent in academic medicine, he leads an extensive team dedicated to elevating awareness, improving engagement, and building relationships to advance the Medical Center's mission across research, medical education, and patient care. With over 30 years of experience in the field, Dr. Nivet has developed creative program initiatives and innovative approaches supporting these core areas. Prior to UT Southwestern, he held executive leadership positions at the Association of American Medical Colleges, consulting with medical schools and teaching hospitals on community engagement and health literacy. He also served as Chief Operating Officer and Treasurer for the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, focusing on aligning workforce training with evolving patient needs.

Dr. Nivet earned his Doctor of Education in higher education management from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013, Master of Business Administration with a concentration in health care management from the George Washington University School of Business in 2008, Master of Science in science from Long Island University in 1995, and Bachelor of Arts in communications in 1992. He is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and former President of the National Association of Medical Minority Educators. Dr. Nivet contributes to academic medicine through service on various national boards and commissions. Locally, he serves on the boards of the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Dallas Symphony, Salesmanship Club of Dallas, Trinity Park Conservancy, and KERA, a National Public Radio and Public Broadcasting Service member station. His scholarly work addresses diversity and inclusion in medical education and healthcare workforce, including key publications such as 'A Diversity and Inclusion Framework for Medical Education' (2016), 'Workforce Diversity and Community-Responsive Health-Care Institutions' (2014), and 'Minorities in Academic Medicine: Review of the Literature' (2010).
