Margarita Kumnick serves as the Research Information Coordinator at the Victoria Institute of Strategic Economic Studies (VISES) at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. She joined the institute, originally established as the Centre for Strategic Economic Studies in 1993, and has been instrumental in managing its information resources and coordinating the publication program. As a trained librarian with expertise in data and information management, Kumnick supports one of Australia's leading applied economic research groups, now part of the Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities. VISES focuses on key areas including investments in global health and human capital, climate change and energy policy, and new economic development models. Her role ensures the effective dissemination of research outputs that influence national and international policy.
Kumnick has contributed to numerous significant publications and reports. She co-edited 'Dialogues on Australia's Future: In Honour of the Late Professor Ronald Henderson' (1996) with Peter Sheehan and Bhajan Grewal, published by Victoria University, and 'Engaging the New World: Responses to the Knowledge Economy' (2005) with Bhajan S. As a co-author, she appears in 'Evaluating Interventions to Reduce Child Marriage in India' (2021, Journal of Global Health Reports, with Bruce Rasmussen and Peter Sheehan), 'Reduced Road Traffic Injuries for Young People: Investing in Safer Roads and Vehicles' (2019, with John Symons and Peter Sheehan), and the 'WHO Investment Case 2.0: Technical Report' (2022). Additional contributions include 'The Comparative Performance of Australia as a Knowledge Nation' (2001), 'Climate Change and the Global Knowledge Economy' (2006), and 'Economics of Scholarly Communication' (2000). Kumnick has provided editorial assistance to multiple PhD theses and research papers at Victoria University, enhancing academic outputs in economics, development economics, energy, and environment. Her work supports VISES collaborations with organizations such as the World Health Organization, UNFPA, APEC, and the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health, contributing to policy on health investments, child protection, road safety, and sustainable development.
