Dr. Marjorie Ringler serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership in East Carolina University's College of Education. She holds an EdD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida, an MEd with a specialization in Educational Leadership from Stetson University, and a BS in Mathematics Education from Florida International University. Prior to academia, she gained 9 years of experience in P-12 teaching and administration, 7 years of university supervision, and 6 years of consultation with K-12 schools. Joining East Carolina University in 2005, she advanced to Associate Professor and assumed the role of Department Chair in 2017. She has taught and coordinated the Master of School Administration, Educational Specialist in Administration and Supervision, and Doctor of Education programs, leading revisions that infused service learning into principal preparation, aligned the EdD curriculum with the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate framework, and developed the Dual Language Immersion Administration Certificate, the only program of its kind in North Carolina.
Dr. Ringler's scholarship focuses on instructional leadership, leader professional development addressing academic language literacy for Multilingual Learners, action research, second language acquisition, linguistics, curriculum and instruction, and principal preparation. Her publications include the book Academic Language Literacy: Developing Instructional Leadership Skills for Principals and Teachers (2015) and articles such as "Backward design: Integrating active learning into instructional leadership courses" (2023), "Impact of the Multicultural Classroom Teacher Model in Addressing Beginning Teacher Self-efficacy and Retention" (2022), "Shifting principal preparation candidates’ common beliefs of diversity in school settings" (2021), "The Role of School Leaders in Teacher Leadership Development" (2018), "Preparing Principal Candidates to Be Instructional Leaders Through Virtual Coaching Preservice Teachers" (2018), and "Broadening Our View of Linguistic Diversity" (2010). With 137 citations on ResearchGate, her work influences educational leadership training. She served as Co-PI on a $2 million National Science Foundation grant to improve computer science department culture and teaching. In 2025, she was inducted into the East Carolina University College of Education Educators Hall of Fame.
