Dr Mark Gradwell serves as Principal Lecturer, Head of Allied Health Professions (AHP), Dental and Public Health, and School Director of Enterprise, Engagement and Employability Healthcare (NHS) at Canterbury Christ Church University in the School of Nursing, Midwifery, Allied and Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Social Care. A HCPC-registered Diagnostic Radiographer with more than 30 years of post-qualification experience, he held clinical positions at Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, and Mayday Hospital (now Croydon University Hospital). His academic career progressed from Senior Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Hertfordshire to London South Bank University, where he became Principal Lecturer for Recruitment in the Faculty of Health and Social Care and Professional Lead for Diagnostic Radiography. Recently promoted to Principal Lecturer, he also acts as School Lead for Apprenticeships and link tutor for placements at Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne District General Hospital.
Gradwell's qualifications include a Diploma of the College of Radiographers, BSc (Hons) Radiography with Diagnostic Practice (Kingston University), MSc Nuclear Medicine and Masters in Public Administration (London South Bank University), Doctorate in Education (Canterbury Christ Church University), Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. His research interests center on Interprofessional Education and Values-based Practice in radiography, exemplified by his EdD thesis 'An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis of Interprofessional Education: An Investigation of the Experiences of Pre-registration Healthcare Students.' Key publications comprise the 2018 training manual 'Values-based Practice in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiography' co-developed with the College of Radiographers and Oxford's Collaborating Centre for Values-based Practice, alongside conference posters presented at events such as the Achieving Excellence in Radiography Education and Research Conference (2016) and UK Radiological Congress (2018). He teaches modules on management, leadership, physics, radiation science, paediatric imaging, nuclear medicine, anatomy, physiology, and digital skills. A member of the Society and College of Radiographers and the Association of Radiography Educators committee, he contributes as an external examiner and subject expert for radiography programs at other institutions.
