About Martin

Professor Martin Morgan Tuuli is Professor of Operations and Project Management and Director of Academic Staffing at Loughborough Business School, Loughborough University. He holds a BSc from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, a PhD in construction project management from the University of Hong Kong, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). With over 20 years of consultancy, professional, and academic experience, Professor Tuuli has held leadership roles including Dean of the Business School at Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) from 2018 to 2020 and Deputy Rector from 2020 to 2023. His academic career at Loughborough University progressed from Lecturer (2010-2014) and Senior Lecturer (2014-2018) to Professor. Earlier positions include Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster (2009-2010), Research Assistant at the University of Hong Kong (2009), and professional roles such as Manager/Quantity Surveyor at Taysec Construction Ltd in Ghana (2003-2005). Professor Tuuli's research specializations encompass climate change finance focusing on adaptation and mitigation, infrastructure cost management, infrastructure and Sustainable Development Goals, infrastructure supply chains and net zero, digitalization and data science in project delivery, impact evaluation, behavioural issues in project delivery, capacity and competences, and empowerment and performance. He has managed significant research projects as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, advancing theories and strategies for effective teamwork in project-based organizations.

Professor Tuuli has authored key publications including 'Project Scope Management' (2023) in Building a Body of Knowledge in Project Management in Developing Countries; 'How motivation, opportunity and ability (MOA) drive individual performance behaviours in projects: A test of competing models' (2021) in Journal of Management in Engineering; 'PPP projects: improvements in stakeholder management' (2019) in Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management; 'Expansive learning in contemporary construction organisations: an exemplar in BIM-mediated projects' (2019) in Built Environment Project and Asset Management; and 'What empowers individual and teams in project settings? A critical incident analysis' (2010) in Engineering Construction and Architectural Management, recognized as the most downloaded paper that year. His contributions have earned major awards such as a £10,000 British Academy grant in 2024 for collaborative activities on Circularity, Adaptability, and Reuse Enhancement in Building Design, Construction and Renovation (CARE-BUILDER); Vinci Price for Best Research Paper on BIM (2013); Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors’ Outstanding PhD Thesis Award (2011); and University of Hong Kong Outstanding Research Postgraduate Student Award (2010). Professor Tuuli serves on the Board of the Project Management Institute Global Accreditation Centre and as Technical Advisor on Projects at the Parliamentary Service of Ghana, influencing project management practices internationally. He is a member of professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Building and Project Management Institute.
