Professor Matthew K. O. Lee serves as Acting Dean and Chair Professor of Digital Business and AI in the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration at Hong Kong Metropolitan University, formerly the Open University of Hong Kong. He holds a BEng (Hons) in Electronic Engineering and an MBA from the University of Sheffield, an LLB and LLM in Commercial and Corporate Law from the University of London (Queen Mary), an MSc in Computation from the University of Oxford, and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Manchester. A qualified Barrister-at-Law in Hong Kong and England & Wales, a Chartered Engineer, and a professional member of the British Computer Society, he possesses a unique blend of engineering, legal, business, and computing expertise. His career features over two decades of leadership at City University of Hong Kong as Chair Professor of Information Systems and E-Commerce, Vice-President (Development and External Relations) and member of the President's Cabinet (2015-2023), Associate Dean (2001-2006, 2007-2011), Interim Dean (2006-2007) of the College of Business, founding Director of the DBA Programme, Head of the Department of Information Systems (1995-2001), and University Director of Communications and Public Relations (2009-2015). Earlier positions include faculty at University College London and staff scientist at BP Research in London.
Professor Lee's research centers on digital business, artificial intelligence, electronic commerce, online social networks, knowledge management, managing IT-based innovation adoption and diffusion, and behavioral effects of ICT such as online addiction and cyberbullying. With 215 research outputs, including 98 journal articles in leading venues like MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, and Information & Management, he has an h-index of 91 and over 42,000 Google Scholar citations. He holds senior public roles including board member of the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board and Hong Kong Productivity Council, and serves on the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's Process Review Committee and UGC Working Group on Research Assessment.
