About Matthew

Dr Matthew McCormack is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Business at UNSW Canberra, University of New South Wales. He completed over 31 years of service as a Maritime Logistics Officer in the Royal Australian Navy, retiring as a Captain (O6), with operational experience in Iraq during Operation Catalyst and Border Protection operations. His academic background includes a PhD from UNSW (2017), Master of Maritime Studies from the University of Wollongong (2010), Master of Arts in Strategy and Policy from UNSW (2008), Bachelor of Management from the University of Canberra (2003), Graduate Certificate in Defence Studies from UNSW, and Graduate Certificate in Maritime Studies from the University of Wollongong. He earned his Bachelor of Management part-time over 13 years while serving full-time, including during sea postings, and advanced his studies at the Australian Command and Staff College, where graduate certificates articulated into master's degrees. His PhD was completed part-time alongside military duties, spanning nine years of full-time equivalent study.

McCormack's research focuses on veterans' transition, disaster management, and logistics matters, and he contributes to the Supply Chain Sustainment Research Group, which explores supply chain operations, procurement, logistics, asset management, and sustainability. He convenes courses such as ZBUS8302 Logistics Management and ZBUS8306 Sustaining Capability, preparing students for roles in physical asset fleet management, sustainment, and capital procurement across the Australian Defence Force, Department of Defence, defence industry, and public agencies.
