Maureen Paul, MD, MPH, is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and occupational medicine specialist with a focus on reproductive health in medicine. She earned her MD from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1979 and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tufts Medical Center from 1981 to 1984. Paul obtained her MPH from Boston University School of Public Health in 1988 and residency training in Occupational Medicine at University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1987. Certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Occupational/Preventive Medicine, she has advanced clinical care and education in reproductive health throughout her career.
Paul has served in key leadership roles, including Chief Medical Officer at Planned Parenthood of New York City and at Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts in Boston. She holds an appointment as Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and is a Corresponding Member of the Faculty of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Among her honors is the Boston University School of Public Health Distinguished Alumni Award in 2000, along with the American Medical Women's Association Reproductive Health Award in 1994, Christopher Tietze Humanitarian Award, and Margaret Sanger Woman of Valor Award. Her research centers on abortion practices and protocols. Paul edited the textbook Management of Unintended and Abnormal Pregnancy: Comprehensive Abortion Care (Wiley-Blackwell, 2009). Key publications include 'Second-trimester surgical abortion practices in the United States' (Contraception, 2018) and 'First trimester medication abortion practice in the United States and Canada' (PLoS ONE, 2017). With over 50 articles and several books, she has shaped clinical standards and resident training programs in abortion and contraception through collaborations with Planned Parenthood and academic obstetrics departments, influencing safe access to reproductive services.
