Mauricio Marrone is an Associate Professor in the Department of Actuarial Studies and Business Analytics at Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University. He earned his PhD in Information Systems from the University of Goettingen in 2012. His research centers on the transformative effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on the workforce and higher education, examining how AI-driven automation reshapes job markets, alters skill requirements, and drives changes in educational curricula. Key interests also encompass text mining in literature reviews, fashion waves, and digital transformation. Marrone is associated with several research centres, including the Data Horizons Research Centre, Frontier AI Research Centre, Nature Positive Finance and Business Research Centre, and Innovation, Strategy and Entrepreneurship Research Centre.
Marrone has garnered numerous awards for his innovative approaches to learning and teaching, such as the 2019 Macquarie Business School Learning Innovation Award, Highly Commended finalist for the 2019 Vice-Chancellor’s Learning Innovation Award, 2016 ACODE and Pearson’s award for Innovation in Technology Enhanced Learning, 2015 Vice-Chancellor's Award for Programs that Enhance Learning for the KickStart program, 2015 Silver LearnX Impact Award for Best Learning Resource, 2014 NSW State iAward in Education for Traders of Macquarie University, and 2014 Wharton–QS Stars Reimagine Education E-learning Award shortlist. He serves on the editorial boards of the Australian Journal of Management, Journal of Information Systems Education, and Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal. Notable publications include "Artificial intelligence at work: A phenomenon-based interdisciplinary review and groundwork for multilevel scholarship" (2026, Information and Management), "Exploring the scope of generative AI in literature review development" (2025, Electronic Markets), "The unaccounted effects of digital transformation: implications for accounting, auditing and accountability research" (2025, Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal), "A multilevel review of artificial intelligence in organizations: Implications for organizational behavior research and practice" (2024), and "IT service management: a cross-national study of ITIL adoption" (2014).
