Melanie O'Brien serves as the Administrator for the Department of Geology in the Sciences Division at the University of Otago, located in Dunedin, New Zealand. She handles general administration duties and manages enquiries for the department. As part of her role, Mel O'Brien is a member of the Outreach Committee, which includes Professor Andrew Gorman (Head of Department), Dr Sophie Briggs, Dr Faye Nelson, and student representative Natalie-Jane Reid.
