Dr. Melissa Belle Isle is a Senior Lecturer in taxation law in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics, Griffith Business School, at Griffith University. She is a member of the Law Futures Centre and co-director of the Griffith Tax Clinic with Professor Brett Freudenberg. Belle Isle earned her Doctor of Philosophy from Griffith University in 2021, focusing on small business taxation and literacy, along with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and GBS Honours in Accounting and Taxation in 2012. Her research centers on Australian small businesses, examining cash flow concerns due to taxation obligations, tax literacy, business literacies, and owner confidence in financial management. Key investigations include the impact of GST on cash flow stability and the interplay between tax compliance and small business performance.
Belle Isle teaches taxation law courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Griffith Business School. Through the Griffith Tax Clinic, she supervises student volunteers providing pro bono tax assistance to vulnerable community members, enhancing work-integrated learning.
