Dr. Mezbahur Rahman is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Minnesota State University, Mankato, specializing in Statistics, a position he has held since 1999, progressing from Assistant Professor to full Professor. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from the University of California, Riverside in 1995, with a dissertation on Two-Stage Shrinkage Testimation in Density Function, Regression Function, and Regression Parameter. Prior degrees include an M.S. in Statistics from Michigan State University in 1989, an M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Dhaka in 1986, and a B.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Dhaka in 1984. Before joining Minnesota State University, Mankato, he served as Lecturer at California State University, Monterey Bay from 1996 to 1999, Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of California, Davis in 1996, and held various teaching assistant and instructor roles at universities including the University of California, Riverside and Old Dominion University. His early career included positions as Statistician at Research Services Limited and Research Assistant at the National Institute of Local Government in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Dr. Rahman's research focuses on estimation and statistical inference (parametric and nonparametric), density and regression function estimation, goodness-of-fit tests, transformation methods, kernel density estimation, logistic regression, time series, survival analysis, and machine learning applications in statistics. He has authored over 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Open Journal of Statistics, Far East Journal of Theoretical Statistics, and Far East Journal of Mathematical Sciences. Key works include 'Beta Distribution Goodness of Fit: A Comparative Study of Anderson-Darling, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Shapiro-Francia and Chi-Square Tests' (2025), 'Goodness-of-Fit in Shifted Exponential Distribution' (2025), 'A Note on Beta Distribution Goodness-of-Fit' (2025), 'A Note on Hosmer-Lemeshow Test in Logistic Models' (2022), and 'Parameter Estimation for the Mixtures of Normal Distributions using Discriminant Analysis' (2021). He has received the Excellence Faculty Research Award from the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2009 and 2016, along with earlier honors such as the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 1995 from the University of California, Riverside. Dr. Rahman serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Statistical Sciences and Earthline Journal of Mathematical Sciences, and as Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Probability and Statistics. He has contributed to numerous departmental committees, including personnel and search committees, and provided consulting services on racial profiling studies, marketing research, and survey validation. A mini-conference honoring his 65th birthday is scheduled at Minnesota State University, Mankato on April 11, 2026.
