Rate My Professor Michael Allen

Dr. Michael Allen serves as Acting Vice President (CEO), Provost, and Chief Academic Officer at Zayed University. He joined the university in 2006 as Dean and Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences and has held previous roles including Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs and Research. Trained as a historian, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Washington and a Master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

His research focuses on nationalism in East Asia, intellectual history, historiography, and Korea, with publications including works on topics such as Korea Between Empires, 1895-1919, The Price of Identity: The 1923 Kanto Earthquake and Its Aftermath, and Ambivalent Social Darwinism in Korea. He maintains an interest in world history and has contributed to discussions on undergraduate research methodologies in the UAE context.
