Dr. Rania Dghaim serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Sustainability within the College of Natural and Health Sciences at Zayed University. She earned her PhD in Chemistry from McGill University in 2000, with her dissertation entitled on the development of a novel sequential insertion of imine/CO into late metal-carbon bonds, providing a new route towards the synthesis of polypeptides and other biologically relevant molecules. Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Dghaim completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Organic Chemistry from 2000 to 2001. She has held her academic position at Zayed University, contributing to the institution's research and teaching mission over an extended tenure documented in university catalogs since at least 2010.
Dr. Dghaim's research encompasses interdisciplinary areas including organometallic catalysis, environmental and analytical chemistry, and public health. Her teaching responsibilities cover Organometallic and Organic Chemistry, Catalysis with applications in amino acid and peptide synthesis, and Polymer Chemistry. Key publications include 'Determination of Heavy Metals Concentration in Traditional Herbal Medicines from Market of United Arab Emirates' in the Journal of Environmental and Public Health (2015), which has received over 338 citations; 'The Mineral Composition of Date Palm Fruits (Phoenix dactylifera L.) under Low to High Salinity Irrigation' in Molecules (2021); 'Sociodemographic predictors of tobacco smoking among expatriate and national adolescents in the United Arab Emirates' in the Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal (2018); and 'An indoor air pollution research strategy for the United Arab Emirates' in the Journal of Hazardous Materials Advances (2025). With a total of 919 citations on Google Scholar, her work demonstrates impact in environmental chemistry and related fields.
