Michael S. Miller is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Economics at DePaul University’s Driehaus College of Business, a key figure in Business & Economics with expertise in economic pedagogy and applied macroeconomics focusing on the United States and the Kingdom of Bahrain. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980, an MA in Economics from the same institution in 1978, and a BA in Economics from Slippery Rock State College. Miller joined the DePaul faculty in 1980 and advanced through significant leadership roles, serving as Chair of the Department of Economics from 2001 to 2007, Associate Dean of Academic Programs, and Associate Dean for Academic Quality. His international teaching experience spans Poland, Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, and Bahrain, and he currently holds a position as Visiting Assistant Professor in the College of Business and Economics at Western Washington University.
Miller’s research has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Economic Asymmetries, Journal of Education for Business, Journal of Teaching in International Business, International Journal of Applied Economics, and European Research Studies Journal. Key publications include “Teaching Applied Macro in Emergent Economies: Lessons From Bahrain” with Seth Epstein (Journal of Teaching in International Business, 2013), “Credit Market and Economic Growth” (European Research Studies Journal, 2015), “The Challenges of Assessing the Output of Emergent Economies” with Seth Epstein (2015), “The Role of Intangible Capital in Explaining Wage Inequality” with Qi Hong Dong (2016), and “Methodology and the Theory of Consumer Behavior” (1983). He received DePaul University’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 1991 and 2011, and the Via Sapientiae Award in 2023. Miller frequently appears on television and radio to analyze macroeconomic conditions and policy developments.
