Michael Pigott is a Lecturer in Theatre Studies within the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney campus. He possesses a Bachelor of Arts with Honours (BA Hons) and a Diploma of Education (Dip.Ed). Deeply fascinated by theatre in all its forms, he actively engages as a theatre maker, performer, and teacher. His teaching responsibilities encompass Australian Theatre, Theatre for Social Change, Theatre Crafts, and the Theory and Practice of Modern Theatre. Pigott's extensive career in the performing arts includes numerous performances and directorial roles across prominent Australian theatre companies.
As a performer, notable credits comprise Cyrano de Bergerac (Sydney Theatre Company), Seeing Unseen (co-devised, Old 505), All’s Well That Ends Well (Sport for Jove), The Twelfth Dawn (co-devised, 505 Productions), Twelfth Night (Sport for Jove), Ride (505 Productions), and Woyzeck (Belvoir-B Sharp). His directorial achievements feature Kinski and I (Winner of the Sydney Fringe Award 2014), Tell Me Again (Old 505), The Young Tycoons (Eternity Playhouse/Darlinghurst Theatre), The Dysfunkshonalz (Darlinghurst Theatre), Once Under A Sky (co-devised, Old Fitz, Brisbane Festival), La La Land (Darlinghurst Theatre), Pugilist Specialist (Darlinghurst Theatre), The Golden Ass (Belvoir-B Sharp), Meet the Candidates (Darlinghurst Theatre), Some Voices (The Lock Up), King Lear (Harlos Productions), and The Doglogs (national tour). Additionally, he has created original works such as the plays Waiting For Words (Victorian College of the Arts, directed by Gareth Boylan) and Walking on Eggshells (AGRFT, Ljubljana, Slovenia, directed by Nicholas Pickard), and co-written Seeing Unseen (Old 505 Theatre), The Twelfth Dawn (Old 505 Theatre), and Once Under A Sky (Old Fitzroy Theatre, Brisbane Festival). In his educational career, Pigott served as primary mentor for four years on the ArtsLab residency program for emerging artists at Shopfront Theatre, designed and delivered workshops for Belvoir, Milkcrate Theatre, and high schools across New South Wales, and coordinated and taught courses at Macquarie University, Sydney Theatre School, and the University of Notre Dame Australia.
