Dr. Michael Scharff serves as Dean of the College of Business, Professor of Business Administration, and Course Coordinator at Limestone University. He earned a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from The Citadel, a Master of Business Administration from Syracuse University, and a Doctor of Management from the University of Phoenix. His academic career at Limestone University encompasses teaching, administrative leadership, and scholarly contributions in business ethics, mentoring, organizational behavior, and doctoral education. Scharff teaches courses including BA461, BA540 Organizational Ethics, MG290 Ethical Issues in the Workplace, MG540 Organizational Ethics, and MG607 Managing Performance. He has delivered graduation speeches at Limestone University, including "I learned it all from the movies" in 2011 and "Mottos to Live by" in 2009.
Scharff's publications include peer-reviewed articles such as "Understanding WorldCom's accounting fraud: Did groupthink play a role?" in the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies (2005), "WorldCom: A failure of moral and ethical values" in the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship (2005, July), and a book review of "The ugly duckling goes to work" in the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship (2006, January). Conference presentations feature "Achieving initial ACBSP Accreditation – Lessons Learned" at the ACBSP Conference (2017), "Cheating in online environments" at the Institute of Behavioral and Applied Management (2011), and workshops on reducing attrition in doctoral programs and ethics in leadership at Academy of Management conferences (2005-2007). Awards include the Fullerton Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence (2007 and 2012), Dissertation of the Year Award (2006), Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellowship (2006-2007), memberships in Delta Mu Delta, Sigma Beta Delta, and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies, and military honors such as the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Parachute Badge, and Honduran Parachute Badge, along with Finance Leadership Award and Finance Hero Award from MCI.
