Michael Slote is the UST Professor of Ethics in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Miami. He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University. Prior to joining the University of Miami in 2002, Slote held faculty positions at Columbia University, Trinity College Dublin, and the University of Maryland, College Park, where he served as chair of the philosophy department for many years. His academic career spans several prestigious institutions, reflecting his significant contributions to philosophical scholarship.

Slote's research specializations encompass ethics, moral psychology, and philosophy of mind. He has authored numerous articles and several influential books, including Morals from Motives (2001), The Ethics of Care and Empathy (2007), Moral Sentimentalism (2010), From Morality to Virtue (1992), Essays on the History of Ethics (2009), The Impossibility of Perfection: Aristotle, Feminism, and the Complexities of Ethics (2011), From Enlightenment to Receptivity: Rethinking Our Values (2013), A Sentimentalist Theory of Mind (2014), and Between Psychology and Philosophy: East-West Themes and Beyond (2020). These works explore agent-based virtue ethics, care ethics, empathy, and sentimentalism, challenging traditional consequentialist and rationalist approaches in moral philosophy. Slote received the University of Miami Provost's Award for Scholarly Activity in 2009. He has been honored as a Tanner Lecturer and served as the inaugural Feng Qi Lecturer at East China Normal University. Additionally, he has participated in public lectures and book talks at the University of Miami, including discussions on his recent publications. Slote's scholarship has had a notable impact on contemporary debates in ethics, particularly through his development of care-based and sentimentalist theories.
