About Micheal

Micheal McAlexander is a tenured Professor and Acting Chair of the Department of Communications at California State University, Fullerton. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Prior to his academic career, McAlexander accumulated over twenty years of professional experience in entertainment-related positions, including serving as U.S. segment producer on several television series for Japan’s NTV Network, writer and editor for feature film electronic press kits, and manager of a heavy metal band. He has also worked in journalism, public relations, advertising, and other professional media-related fields. McAlexander joined California State University, Fullerton as a full-time faculty member approximately twelve years ago, advancing to full professor status. He serves as a professor in the Entertainment Studies program and has taught as a visiting professor for over fourteen years at the Institute for International Studies at Ramkhamhaeng University in Bangkok, Thailand. Additionally, he instructed for two summers in Florence, Italy, as part of the CSUF Department of Communications study abroad program.

McAlexander's research specializations and academic interests encompass visual communication, film studies, and screenwriting. He authored the textbook Visual Communication: Meaning in Seeing, published by Great River Learning in 2022. He contributed the chapter "Postmodernism in Action Movies" to A Companion to the Action Film, edited by James Kendrick and published by Wiley-Blackwell in 2019. McAlexander has written two screenplays: The Last Solution in 2018 and Lockdown in 2018, with Lockdown selected as an official entry in the 2017 Beverly Hills Film Festival. His career appointments include service as Interest Division Representative on the Board of Directors for the Broadcast Education Association from 2014 to 2019. Within the department, he has participated in the Graduate Curriculum & Assessment Committee, Digital Skills/Portfolio Working Group, and Website/Social Media Working Group during the 2021-2022 academic year. McAlexander contributes to university initiatives such as the Wall of Fame induction events, grant writing academy, senior honors projects, and faculty development leadership programs.
