About Mika

Mika Suzuki serves as President and Professor in the Faculty of Law at Soka University, with a specialization in Corporate Law. Born in 1963 in Chiba Prefecture, she graduated from Soka University's Faculty of Law in 1986. She furthered her studies, earning a Master of Laws degree from Indiana University Bloomington Law School in 1998. Her professional journey began with passing the Japanese bar exam in 1987. In 1990, she completed the Supreme Court Legal Training and Research Institute, registered as an attorney with the Tokyo Bar Association, and joined Inokuma Juji Law Office. She expanded her expertise internationally by passing the New York State Bar Exam in 1998 while at Ogihara & Moore, LLP in the United States, and gaining admission to the New York Bar in 1999 to work at White & Case LLP. In her academic career at Soka University, she was appointed Professor at the Law School in 2010, Professor in the Faculty of Law in 2016, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2020, Dean in 2022, Vice President in 2024, and President in 2025.

Suzuki's research centers on the duties and responsibilities of directors. She teaches subjects including Corporate Law, Financial Instruments and Exchange Law, Civil Law Seminar I and II, GLP Seminar, Commercial Law Seminar I, Business Law, and International Law. Drawing on her background as a lawyer handling corporate legal affairs and litigation, her seminars emphasize practical analysis of case precedents in civil law and corporate law (commercial law), alongside contemporary societal events. Key publications include "Defamation and Privacy" (co-authored with Gyosei), "Intellectual Property Tax Strategy" (co-authored with Tax Accounting Association), "Legal Q&A for Rental Housing, 5th Edition" (co-authored with Jyutaku Shinposha), "Recent Cases on the Liability of De Facto Directors to Third Parties" (Soka Law Journal, Vol. 8, Seibundo), and "Duty of Care Owed by Directors to the Company in the Implementing of MBO" (Soka Law Journal, Vol. 9, Seibundo).
