Dr. Mike Burbridge serves as a Lecturer in Innovation in the School of Management and Marketing within the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. He is the Course Coordinator for the Bachelor of Innovation, a program that enables students to take control of their future careers by fostering innovative thinking and practical skills. Burbridge completed his PhD at Curtin University in 2022, with a thesis titled 'Low carbon transition through innovation at the university-industry-government nexus.' This research explored the dynamics of partnerships between universities, industry, and government to facilitate low-carbon innovations and sustainable transitions. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned a BSc (Econ) Honours and an MSc. His academic background supports his focus on evidence-based innovation and sustainability policy.
Earlier in his career, Burbridge held the position of Executive Director of Curtin University's Australian Sustainable Development Institute (ASDI), appointed in 2012. In this leadership role, he promoted collaboration across university disciplines and external stakeholders to advance sustainable development initiatives. Burbridge's research interests center on partnership development at the university-industry-government nexus, sustainable innovation, and low-carbon strategies. He has affiliations with the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP). Notable publications include 'A Systematic Literature Review of Partnership Development at the University–Industry–Government Nexus,' published in Sustainability in 2021 with co-author Gregory M. Morrison, and 'If Living Labs are the Answer – What's the Question? A Review of the Literature' in 2017. His PhD thesis further contributes to this body of work. Burbridge has engaged in public scholarship, authoring pieces such as 'Everyone loves sustainable development, but does anyone know what it is?' on The Conversation in 2012. His research has received over 150 citations, indicating influence in innovation and sustainability fields. Additionally, he supervises research degrees and contributes to professional development courses at Curtin.
