Milena Gandy is an Associate Professor and Clinical Psychologist in the School of Psychological Sciences at Macquarie University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with First Class Honours from Trinity College Dublin, a Doctor of Clinical Psychology from the University of Sydney, and a PhD from the University of Sydney on the identification, prediction, and management of depression in epilepsy. Her applied clinical research focuses on enhancing the quality of life and wellbeing of individuals living with neurological disorders, such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and acquired brain injury. She develops psychological treatments including cognitive behavioural therapy and cognitive rehabilitation, investigates mental health epidemiology and screening, and advocates for integrated mental health care within neurology services. At the eCentreClinic, she created the internet-delivered Wellbeing Neuro Course, which combines mental health and cognitive rehabilitation components suitable for various neurological conditions.
Gandy has published extensively on these topics, with highly cited works including 'Anxiety and depressive disorders in people with epilepsy: a meta-analysis' (2017), 'Psychometric properties and clinical utility of brief measures of depression, anxiety, and general distress: The PHQ-2, GAD-2, and K-6' (2019), and recent randomized controlled trials such as 'A randomised controlled trial of internet-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy targeting symptoms of depression, anxiety and disability in adults with multiple sclerosis' (2026). She has received the Australian Psychological Society Early Career Research Award (2019), Macquarie University Early Career Researcher of the Year Highly Commended in the HASS category (2019), Macquarie University Faculty of Human Sciences Early Career Research Grant (2017), and a Postdoctoral Fellowship from MS Australia. Gandy co-chairs the Integrated Mental Health Care Pathways Task Force of the International League Against Epilepsy Psychiatry Commission and serves on research committees at Macquarie University, including the School of Psychological Sciences Research Committee and the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre Executive Leadership Team. She has delivered public lectures and webinars, such as the ILAE Webinar on Integrated Psychological Care Services (2024).
