About Min-Yen

Min-Yen Kan is an Associate Professor and Vice Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS) School of Computing. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science (1996), an M.Sc. in Computer Science (1998), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2002), all from Columbia University. His research focuses on digital libraries, natural language processing, information retrieval, large language models, applied machine learning, and human-computer interaction. He leads the Web Information Retrieval / Natural Language Processing Group (WING) at NUS and has contributed to projects in scientific discourse analysis, fact verification, full-text literature mining, lexical semantics, and retrieval-augmented generation.

Kan serves as co-chair of the ACL Ethics Committee and previously directed the ACL Anthology from 2008 to 2018. He is an associate editor for the journal Information Retrieval and survey editor for the Journal of AI Research (JAIR). He is a senior member of the ACM and IEEE, and a member of the ACL. Kan has received awards including the Best Paper Award at CIKM 2019, the Vannevar Bush Best Paper Award at JCDL 2012, and Distinguished Service Awards from the Association for Computational Linguistics. He has been recognized as an ACM Distinguished Speaker for his work in natural language processing and digital libraries.
