Mindy Douthit is an Assistant Professor of Instruction and Faculty Director of the SESP Practicum in Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy, focusing on the Learning and Organizational Change program. She earned a Ph.D. in Organization Theory and Strategy from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 2000, with a dissertation titled "The Social Capital of Supervisory Relations." Douthit also holds an MBA in Management from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (1998) and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with Honors from Miami University (1992, Cum Laude). Her professional experience includes serving as an Adjunct Professor at DePaul University’s College of Commerce from 1998 to 1999, teaching undergraduate courses in Entrepreneurship Strategy and Introduction to Organization Behavior, and an MBA course in Change Management. From 1997 to 1998, she worked as a Manager at The International Forum, designing and developing senior executive educational programs for global clientele across Europe, Asia, and the U.S. Earlier, as a Change Management Consultant at Andersen Consulting from 1992 to 1995, she contributed to organization analysis and design, human resources, communication, human-computer interaction, and training design and development. She researched and assisted in writing "FutureWork: Putting Knowledge to Work in the Knowledge Economy" (The Free Press, 1994), designed training for a Laboratory Information Management System delivered to over 200 workers, and created organization structures and training plans for international expansion.
Since 2005, Douthit has been a Lecturer at Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy, teaching undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Organization Theory and Practice and Studies in Organizational Change, and master’s-level courses including Introduction to Research Methods, Capstone Design & Measurement, Capstone Analysis & Interpretation, and Social Network Analysis, while serving as Capstone Advisor. She instructs and advises research in the MS in Learning and Organizational Change program and engages in leadership coaching with Kellogg’s Executive Education programs. Her research and teaching interests include organizational development and change, social network analysis, organizational change and innovation, and career development and fulfillment for young professionals. Key publications are "Job satisfaction returns to human and social capital" (Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management, Vol. 1(1), 1999, pp. 1–21), "Self construal and positioning of CSR initiatives: Key factors influencing employee perceptions and participation" (The International Journal of Environmental, Cultural, Economic and Social Sustainability, Vol. 6(5), 2010, pp. 211–226), and the chapter "Employee Perceptions of CSR: Critical factors for boosting CSR participation" (2013). She presented "Leading Change through the minds, not the hearts of followers" at the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology Meetings (2010) and won Best Student Paper at the Institute for Behavioral and Applied Management (1998).
